Bio

A first generation American from a Caribbean background, Rashad Frett was taught from a young age to work hard for his goals. He was always fascinated in the arts but started pursuing it seriously after joining the U.S. Army. Experiencing 9/11 firsthand when his Army unit was sent to NYC to help with rescue/ evacuation, Frett wanted to make a positive impact on society. Telling stories through the power of the media became his passion. Frett furthered his education and honed his filmmaking skills which got him accepted into the NYU Tisch Graduate Film program. He is currently an MFA Candidate at NYU Tisch and is a recipient of the 2018 BAFTA – HBO scholarship, the Martin Scorsese Young Filmmakers scholarship, a 2019 BET Blackhouse Foundation Fellowship at Sundance, a King Wasserman Award Winner at 2019 NYU’s First Run Film Festival, Winner of the 2018 DGA Student Film Award in the Eastern Region African American category, and 2019’s national winner for Gentleman Jack’s Real to Reel film competition with Omari Hardwick.

Additionally, Frett is a Cinematographer with work that has screened in prestigious festivals including SXSW, LA Film Festival, and American Black Film Festival.
