Two New Orleans paramedics’ lives are ripped apart after encountering a series of horrific deaths linked to a designer drug with bizarre, otherworldly effects. Anthony Mackie plays Steve as he dives deeper and deeper into the wild side effects of the new synthetic drug known as synchronic. He salvages the final remaining doses as he hurls himself at the task of finding his partner’s daughter, who goes missing after trying the drug.
Cucalorus alums Benson and Moorhead continue their playful investigation of genre in this mindbendingly crafty thriller. New Orleans delivers its own haunting performance as the raw material for some amazing set design. For fans of their work, this is another brain blowing jump into a world where time makes its own rules, and we’re just struggling to keep up.
Aaron Moorhead grew up in Tarpon Springs, Florida, and graduated from Florida State University Film School. He has directed and co-directed several features, including A Glaring Emission , Resolution, Spring, V/H/S: Viral, and The Endless. Moorhead came to Cucalorus with Spring (2014) and The Endless (2017).
