David, a bored and lonely waiter in Wilmington, NC, finds his life turned upside down when he starts an affair with Hannah, a mysterious older woman whose past is as unclear as her motives. Simultaneously, David commences a search for his birth parents with surprising results. Complicating David's life even further is the unexpected arrival of Jason, his very talkative, very gay new upstairs neighbor, whose awkward attempts to form a friendship with David are constantly misinterpreted. Jason ultimately has no interest in David anyway, since he has his hands full trying to figure out his relationship with Simon, a closeted teacher. David's only real confidante is his sister Nancy. A career gal, Nancy is the unwitting recipient of two men's attention--married church deacon George, with whom she had a one-time fling, and her sleazy boss Pruitt. She has a soft spot for kindly mechanic Ray, who has a knack for coming to her rescue, but can she overlook their differences? David's co-worker Jeanne must only deal with her shiftless husband, but he turns out to be the biggest problem of all, except for maybe that trailer park hitman who just set his sights on a new target. Infidelity, long-lost relatives, secret identities, dark obsessions...and one very dead goat. David, Jeanne, Nancy and Jason feel like they are in the middle of some twisted, comic soap opera--but it's just another day in the port city.
Screening with Keeping Up With The Jetsons.
