Cucalorus Announces AUGUST 2 as Final Film Deadline!

Just two weeks left to submit films to Cucalorus! The 24th annual Cucalorus Festival is accepting film submissions for its five-day creative convergence, November 7-11, 2018.

The Cucalorus Film Festival seeks submissions focusing on emerging and innovative filmmakers, student and youth films, shorts, international cinema, and social justice. There are no time limits or specific genres for film submissions – if you make it, we take it – from features to shorts, music videos, web series, tv commercials, branded content, and beyond. Films must have been completed within the past two years, and films with world premieres before November 2017 are not eligible. All films must be Wilmington, NC premieres to qualify. The festival strives to showcase diverse, international artists of all ages, genders, races, economics, hairstyles, religions, and backgrounds. Submissions for Connect and Stage have closed.

MovieMaker Magazine ranked Cucalorus in its 2018 Top 50 Film Fests Worth the Entry Fee list for the fifth year in a row, noting, “Instead of tense, prize-centric showdowns, this medium-sized North Carolinian creative retreat of sorts devotes its precious time to moviemaker-to-moviemaker bonds formed during late nights at its pastel-painted flagship theater, Jengo’s Playhouse, or at offbeat events like 2017’s interactive installation, where attendees were frosted like living cakes.”

The summer-camp style festival also features cocktail workshops, interactive installations like the Bus to Lumberton and plenty of funky, organic social situations. Cucalorus takes place in downtown Wilmington, NC along the banks of the Cape Fear River, with venues ranging from historic haunted houses to the brand-spankin’ newest breweries hopping up. Revel in the power of community: make new friends, catch up with old, experience creativity in its makers’ presence, and connect with talented emerging artists and established veterans eager to give a leg up.

Cucalorus is made possible by the NEA, NC Arts Council, City of Wilmington, UNCW, tekMountain, and tons of other awesome sponsors!
