In the near future, a small village in the Brazilian sertão mourns the loss of its 94-year-old matriarch. Days later, the inhabitants (including legendary actress Sônia Braga) notice that their town has literally vanished from maps, a UFO has begun flying overhead, and a band of armed mercenaries (led by Udo Kier) have arrived to pick off the community one by one. A thrillingly imaginative freakout that blurs the line between rural dramedy, political allegory, ultra-violent siege action and a mysterious dollop of science fiction, this Cannes Jury Award winner offers rich arthouse formalism and rowdy midnight pleasures.
