Silence Sam // Courtney Symone :: Since its dedication in 1913, students, staff, faculty and community members at UNC have advocated for the removal of a Confederate monument – Silent Sam – that stands at the entrance of their campus, and for years, have faced systemic silencing from administrators.

Silenced Sam // Michael Galinsky, Suki Hawley :: Silent Sam on UNC campus was put up in 1913 – almost 50 years after the Civil War. Last year there were bollards and zip ties- This year there was waiting. Last year the University spent 400,000 dollars to protect the statue. It was time for it to come down a long time ago.
