Jengo’s Playhouse is a pastel-painted community cinema and the homebase for the Cucalorus Foundation’s year-round activity. This quirky hot-spot is a multi-media arts facility located on 815 Princess St. in downtown Wilmington, North Carolina. An ingeniously redeveloped prefab metal building nestled in the city’s historic district, Jengo’s is one of six buildings belonging to a burgeoning artistic campus located in Wilmington’s Soda Pop District, an area known for a scattered collection of creative entrepreneurs – from the homebaked Folks Cafe to the agricultural invention machine The Full Belly Project. Just down the block lies the old Coca-Cola Bottling Factory, giving the district it’s uniquely appropriate nickname.
The centerpiece of the facility is a 52-seat community cinema used by filmmakers and community groups for screenings, meetings, parties, and the occasional wedding.
