Wilmington- Cucalorus Film Foundation reminds filmmakers that there is just one week left to apply for the Filmed in NC Fund, a statewide financial support program for independent filmmakers across North Carolina. Applications are open through October 8, 2025.Launched in 2015 through a partnership with the North Carolina Film Office, the Filmed in NC Fund provides direct financial support to North Carolina film and media artists. This year, Southern Documentary Fund joins as a partner, highlighting the depth of talented artists working in documentaries across our state. They join long-time partner Artless Media, whose support focuses on strengthening support for artists making experimental short films.“The Southern Documentary Fund has been a longtime leader in championing courageous nonfiction storytelling and we are excited to welcome them as a partner,” said Cucalorus Communications Manager Anna Bennett. The Filmed in NC Fund supports narrative and documentary projects, short films, episodic work, and experimental films. Submissions this year are open to projects with budgets under $1.5 million, with awards ranging from $500 to $3,000 per project.The program aims to deepen support for women, filmmakers of color, and LGBTQ+ identifying artists, while welcoming applications from all eligible creators. Open to both emerging and established filmmakers, the fund supports projects at all stages of production, from development through completion, with a focus on cultural significance, artistic excellence, and community impact. Award recipients will be announced at the 31st annual Cucalorus Film Festival, taking place November 19-23, 2025 in downtown Wilmington.The deadline to apply is October 8, 2025.
