Wilmington, NC- Cucalorus and NC Aquariums are pleased to present the 14th annual Surfalorus Film Festival, a three-day festival taking place this September 15-17, 2025 at Jennette’s Pier in Nags Head, NC. Held alongside the Eastern Surf Championships, Surfalorus showcases the year’s finest surf films, laid-back gatherings, and some of the season’s best waves. With a legacy of featuring iconic surf legends and acclaimed filmmakers, the festival continues to bring the thrill of surf cinema to North Carolina audiences. Now in its 14th year, Surfalorus invites bold and creative filmmakers to submit their latest works celebrating the art of surfing, the power of the ocean, and the stories that ride the tide.

“Since moving our screenings to Jennette’s Pier in Nags Head, we’ve truly found the perfect home for the festival,” said festival director Zach Hanner. “We have an outstanding venue, unique and captivating films and interesting, fun filmmakers in attendance. Combine that with the ESA surf contest happening concurrently right down on the beach and you’ve got the combination for one of the more interesting cultural events occurring on the Outer Banks today.”

Surfalorus accepts shorts, features, documentaries and any other surf-inspired films by filmmakers of all backgrounds from around the globe. Submit films online at FilmFreeway.com/surfalorus. The final submission deadline is May 19, 2025.

Surfalorus is presented by NC Aquariums and is organized through a premier collaboration between Dare Arts and Wilmington, NC-based Cucalorus Film Festival, which will celebrate its 31st anniversary in November. Surfalorus is sponsored in part by the Outer Banks Visitors Bureau.
