Wilmington, N.C. – WHQR Public Media announces new partnership with Cucalorus to present the Cinematique Film Series at Jengo’s PlayhouseWHQR is excited to announce that the Cinematique Film Series will continue in a new partnership with the Cucalorus Film Foundation through their community cinema Jengo’s Playhouse. This new era for Cinematique will launch this Fall with an eclectic lineup of original films, continuing Cinematique’s legacy of presenting the best in international and independent film. Sponsors and donors are being recruited to ensure the future success of the series, so please reach out if you’d like to become a Cinematique supporter and help to launch this new chapter for a beloved Wilmington institution.WHQR Development Director and Cinematique Coordinator Mary Bradley says, “We are thrilled to be able to continue this community institution. With our new partnership with Cucalorus at Jengo’s, we hope to present even more independent, foreign, classic and notable films that might not otherwise find their way to our region.”For more than 30 years, most of these in partnership with Historic Thalian Hall, WHQR and Cinematique have helped to connect a community of cinephiles with each other and created a regular opportunity for gathering, socializing, and watching great films. That opportunity is still only available in a cinema with friends. WHQR and Cucalorus are excited to continue that tradition.Cucalorus Executive Director Dan Brawley says, “Anne Brennan took me to Cinematique in the mid 90s when I was an intern at St. John’s Museum. The film was John Sayles Return of the Secaucus 7 and it had a big impact on me. I discovered an entire world of films that I wasn’t seeing at the movie theater or at home on HBO or Cinemax. It really started my appreciation for independent and international cinema. In some ways, I never looked back.” About WHQRWHQR Public Media is a non-profit, member-supported, community-based public radio station, broadcasting from Wilmington.
