Wilmington, NC- Cucalorus Film Foundation is excited to announce Jengo’s Playhouse Fall film lineup, which includes a mix of cult classics, bold new features, and thought-provoking documentaries. The series kicks off on Friday, September 26 at 7:30pm with Muppets from Space. Shot in Wilmington, the family-friendly film gives locals the chance to spot familiar sights – including the quirky house where Kermit, Miss Piggy, and the rest of the Muppets live.

On October 3, the series continues with Sundance hit Bunnylovr, a gripping drama about an aimless New York cam girl navigating a toxic relationship with a client while reconnecting with her estranged father. The following week, on October 11, Jengo’s will host a special screening by The Abortion Clinic Film Collective, a group of feminist filmmakers who came together in the wake of Roe v. Wade’s overturn to share stories from medical directors, mothers, attorneys, and advocates about how their lives have been reshaped post-Dobbs.

The In Real Life (IRL) Movie Club returns to Jengo’s for a special matinee on Sunday, October 12 with an exclusive screening of My Omaha, Amid Omaha’s social and political divides, filmmaker Nick Beaulieu returns home to confront both a changing city and his own family. Cucalorus staff will lead a post-screening discussion after the film exploring some of the historical racial themes in the film.

The compelling new documentary Following Harry screens on Oct. 24, featuring Harry Belafonte, Aja Monet, Aloe Blacc, and Jesse Williams. A Film Collaborative Theatrical release, the film explores the life and legacy of the cultural and civil rights icon through the stories of artists and activists carrying on his work for social justice.

Halloween night brings one of the most anticipated evenings of the series with Beef is Better Than Veal: A Scala Sausage Cinema Evening. This special double feature offers cult chaos, surreal sausages, and psychoactive cocktails, pairing the original Little Shop of Horrors with The Trip, a psychedelic journey written by Jack Nicholson and starring Peter Fonda.

Celebrate Immigrant Experiences comes to Jengo’s on November 7 with a curated selection of short films organized by Evelyn Lorena, director of the short film Gabriela. The fall season closes with a special screening of the restored 2009 Greek film Dogtooth that launched the soaring career of Yorgos Lanthimos and had its US premiere at Cucalorus.

A pre-screening social hour will begin at 6:30pm at Jengo’s Backyard Bar before each screening. Enjoy craft cocktails and refreshing mocktails, and don’t forget to grab some popcorn from concessions. Select films will also include a post-screening Q&A with filmmakers in attendance. To view the full fall schedule, and to purchase tickets, visit jengos.eventive.org/schedule.
